How to Use This Guide
Welcome and thank you for bringing the PAF Reading Program into your California classroom. In addition to the Teacher Handbook, this Digital Implementation Guide is an important resource for you to reference throughout the school year. In it, you will find further information regarding multisensory instruction, the PAF daily lesson, as well as guidance on how to differentiate instruction and support the needs of all students in your classroom. You’ll also find information about the PAF Reading Program’s alignment to the California Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts (CA CCSS for ELA), information for families, and links to further reading.
PAF Reading Program’s Instructional Sequence is made up of 200 levels that progress from simple to complex concepts, and skills are practiced and reinforced at each level until they become automatic. The program is designed for students in Kindergarten through 2nd Grade and provides 180 days of instruction per grade level.
The sequence of a PAF Reading Program lesson, with a suggested time of 45-60 minutes, remains the same each day, with rare exceptions. A typical lesson has 5 parts: Review, Introduction of New Material, Spelling Dictation, Reading, and Reinforcement. This approach allows each part of the lesson to set the groundwork for the next, beginning with a review to activate prior knowledge and ending with reading from a chapter book.
In order to ensure the best results for all types of learners, the PAF Reading Program should be implemented with fidelity throughout the school year. For more information, please click here.
