PAF Reading Program and its instructional materials are designed to ensure that all students master Foundational Skills as outlined and defined by the English Language Arts/English Language Development Framework for California Public Schools, the California Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts (CA CCSS for ELA) and the Evaluation Criteria Map for Full and Partial Program Type 1: Basic English Language Arts, Kindergarten through Grade Eight. Furthermore, PAF Reading Program meets the Standards for Evaluating Instructional Materials for Social Content. PAF Reading Program was designed to provide systematic foundational skills instruction to students in Kindergarten through second grade within authentic reading and writing activities, including phonemic awareness, phonics, word recognition, morphology, orthographic patterns (for decoding and spelling), vocabulary, cohesive ties, handwriting, and comprehension strategies. All of these vital components of reading are taught in integrated lessons, each subject reinforcing and strengthening theothers, using a mix of decodable texts (fiction and non-fiction), authentic literature and informational text, that gradually increase in complexity to develop fluency, listening and reading comprehension, and critical thinking skills.
