Independent reading is intentionally organized to support students’ progression toward increasingly complex text through decodable and authentic reading experiences. Students engage with texts selected based on instructional readiness and interest, ensuring accessibility and engagement. Teachers guide text selection and monitor progress through observation and discussion, supporting comprehension and reading independence.
PAF provides a cumulative and structured approach to independent reading through decodable texts aligned to phonics instruction, ensuring that students apply newly acquired skills in connected text. As students demonstrate proficiency, they engage with increasingly complex texts, building fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.
